I'm not interested in relaxing my hair but just the availability to change my style sometimes by making my hair more moveable.

The balms would work only if you flat iron it after using the balm. That's what balm does. It's HELPS to straighten the hair. Ultimately it's the straightener that does the ACTUAL straightening but the balm helps and keeps hair from becoming frizzy. Hope this helps. Good luck!!

You might want to try using a moisturizing lotion and blow dry it. This would relax it temporarily and you could go back to your afro hair whenever you want to.
