Looking to dye, cut, and layer my hair (with some edge), but my hair is super-thick & curly. wha

I have slightly curly (wavey curls), very thick, long (about middle back), blonde/dirty blonde hair. Before summer ends, I want to come back to my sophmore year with a new style. I'm really partial to edgy layers (with the bangs), and I was hoping to dye it a mohoghany color. The only thing I'm worried about, is my hair is so thick, I don't want it to look poofy and bad looking. I also don't want my hair to be any shorter then shoulder level (prefferably past shoulder).

Helpful tips, and styles (with links) would be GREATLY appreciated!

Heres a link of the look I'm sort of trying to get:

I really like the mahogany look on a lot of people, but before you use it, try a wash in wash out color of it to make sure you like it, then go buy the same color only perminent. Side swept bangs are very versitile and can compliment anyone who wears them. I wouldn't straighten your hair too often because curls are very pretty, unless you really don't like them, or look better with straight hair. I like the look your try to get from the pictures but if you want more choices you could try this website( it has ten different Jessica Alba haircuts that are about the lenght you want with differnt styles . . .

Yeah, definitely get your hair thinned, and the layering will help as well. It's a pretty hairstyle, by the way.

Straighten your hair. Tell them exactly what you want. They'll probably thin it out if you ask, but just a warning: it'll grow in funny-looking.

i would suggest finding a photo of how u want ur hair to be,and then taking it to the salon with u. be sure to make any emphasis on length and things like that before the stylist starts. and ask about any hints or products they recommend for your hair type. good luck w/the new look

Ask them about getting your hair relaxed, or a straight perm, at the same time.

My hair isnt thick, but its long, wavy, and extremely frizzy especially in heat and humidity. I dye it and have layers, but I still have to blow dry it straight every morning. When I get a straight perm, it does help somewhat.

Getting the layers is actually going to help the poofiness, because it keep hairs of the same length laying together.

I use a product by Aveda called Smoothing Mist, it really helps my frizz in humidity.

Sounds like what you have planned is going to look great!
